Andorra Nightclub Guard Arrested for Assaulting Customer with Illegal Baton

Police in Andorra arrested a 50-year-old security guard working at a nightclub in El Tarter on Saturday night after he assaulted a customer with a privately purchased telescopic baton during an argument over taking a glass bottle outside.

The customer, a temporary resident with a small group of friends, attempted to leave the venue carrying the bottle. The guard, employed by a local security firm, stopped him and demanded he leave it behind or use a plastic cup instead, in line with rules prohibiting glass outside. The customer disregarded the instruction, sparking a dispute that escalated when the guard pulled out the extendable baton—acquired on his own and not approved or authorized for professional use—and struck the man across various body parts.

Officers responded shortly before midnight, detaining the guard on initial suspicion of a crime against physical and moral integrity due to the victim's injuries. A later inspection revealed the baton's illegal status for private possession, leading to an additional charge of a crime against collective security. Professional tools, if deployed proportionally, would have been permissible, but sources suggest this was not the case.

The victim sustained non-serious injuries consistent with baton strikes, exceeding standard security protocols, along with a bleeding facial wound from a punch. He made his own way to hospital for treatment and a medical report to support a potential complaint, though authorities have not confirmed if one has been filed. The guard showed no injuries, and there is no indication the customer or his friends assaulted him. Reports point to the guard possibly overreacting, feeling threatened by the group.

The suspect appeared in court Sunday afternoon and was released that evening. The investigation into his conduct continues.
