A 31-year-old man from Escaldes-Engordany has received a 12-month suspended prison sentence from the Tribunal de Corts for harassing his former partner between 2021 and 2023.

The ruling includes a four-year probation period, an eight-year ban on contacting the victim, a four-year rehabilitation program or until experts deem it complete, and responsibility for all court costs. This fell short of prosecutors' initial request for a 30-month suspended term, which they later raised to four years in prison during the trial, citing a pattern of persistent pressure and surveillance.

The charges involved domestic abuse, intentional injuries requiring medical treatment, and a minor harassment offense, stemming from a nine-year relationship that turned into ongoing control after the breakup. The victim described a gradual decline in her physical and emotional health, forcing her to alter daily routines to avoid the man's actions. At the oral hearing two weeks ago, the defendant admitted showing up repeatedly at her home with obsessive behavior, even in front of her mother.

The decision avoids actual jail time provided he complies with the no-contact order and probation terms over the next four years. No further comment from the defendant has emerged following the judgment.
