Andorra la Vella ranks among Europe's top 12 alternative destinations for viewing the total solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12, according to an analysis by meteorologist Jim N.R. Dale of British Weather Services, in partnership with Inghams Walking.

The study highlights the Andorran capital's projected 99% solar obscuration—the highest among the selected sites—alongside an average August cloud cover of 44% based on historical data. Lisbon leads the rankings, followed by French cities Bordeaux and Lyon in third and fourth place. As Europe's highest capital, Andorra la Vella pairs these favourable astronomical conditions with attractions like the Casa de la Vall and its historic city centre.

Arinsal offers a nearby alternative with nearly matching visibility and more than 100 kilometres of hiking trails, appealing to visitors combining the eclipse with outdoor pursuits.

Inghams Walking reported a 530% increase in Google searches for "eclipse holidays" over the past year, signalling rising demand for such trips. Hotel bookings in several Tarragona-area towns have been full for a year, underscoring regional interest in prime viewing spots.
