Neighbour alerted authorities after spotting smoke from apartment window; firefighters extinguished blaze

Two people suffered mild smoke inhalation injuries in a kitchen fire at a first-floor apartment on Carrer Gil Torres in Santa Coloma on Thursday midday. Firefighters determined the blaze stemmed from a pot left on the stove during lunch preparation.

A neighbour spotted heavy smoke billowing from a kitchen window at number 38 and raised the alarm at 12:48 p.m. Emergency crews arrived to find the two occupants already safely outside. Responders quickly extinguished the flames within minutes and ventilated the apartment and stairwell.

The response involved nine firefighters with four vehicles: an autoescala, an autobomba, the duty officer's vehicle, and a firefighters' ambulance. Additional support came from two private ambulances, one from Medical Emergency Services (SEM or SUM), two police patrols, and traffic agents from Andorra la Vella. The street was temporarily closed during the roughly one-hour operation, with damage confined mainly to the kitchen.

On-site medical teams treated the occupants for their minor injuries before transferring them to Meritxell Hospital for further evaluation and observation. Officials described their conditions as non-serious.
