Andorra court cuts father's child sex abuse sentence from 15 to 10 years

The Superior Court of Andorra has reduced a father's prison sentence from 15 to 10 years for sexually abusing his minor daughter, partially upholding his appeal by acquitting him on one count of sexual acts without consent.

The man, a Filipino national in his forties and a long-term resident who worked in the restaurant sector, was originally convicted in February by the Corts Court for repeated sexual assaults on his daughter from ages 4 to 11. He has remained in custody since his arrest on 1 May 2024, as he left work. The girl disclosed the abuse years later to a trusted school teacher, shortly before her 15th birthday.

The criminal chamber confirmed most of the original ruling but overturned one of the convictions for sexual acts without the minor's consent, citing issues with proof assessment raised by the defence. Lawyers had sought full acquittal or, alternatively, a maximum of six years' imprisonment, while arguing against his deportation. They contended that the victim's statements had varied and that not all offences were proven. The man has consistently denied the allegations.
