Andorra Police Celebrate 95th Anniversary and Mountain Unit's 50th with Parades and Honors

Andorra's police force celebrated its Patron Saint Day on Friday with a series of ceremonies marking the 95th anniversary of the corps, founded in 1931, alongside tributes to the mountain unit's 50th anniversary and collaboration with national traffic services.

Events began that morning with a mass in honour of Maria Auxiliadora at the Sant Esteve church in Andorra la Vella. The programme continued at the newly renovated Plaça del Poble, which hosted its inaugural flag-raising and state symbols ceremony. The national flag arrived by helicopter, carried by two security officers from the air to underscore the mountain unit's role, before members escorted it to the square.

Senior officials, including Head of Government Xavier Espot, Justice and Interior Minister Ester Molné, and Police Director Bruno Lasne, reviewed the assembled forces ahead of the formal proceedings. The parade featured specialised groups such as the police dogs unit, motorised traffic team, aerial and ground units, and the first intervention and public order maintenance group.

Highlights included the solemn raising of the flag, the police anthem composed in 1994, and a display emphasising public service, dedication, and commitment to citizen safety. After the outdoor events, the gathering moved to the packed main auditorium at the Andorra la Vella Congress Centre. There, proceedings featured welcomes from authorities, a musical performance, a commemorative video, tributes to retired members, and awards including service insignia for officers marking 20, 30, 35, and 40 years of service.

The day highlighted the corps' specialised units and partnerships while commemorating nearly a century of operations.
