Andorra Police Arrest Young Man for Alleged Sexual Assault on 13-Year-Old Girl

Authorities detained the suspect swiftly after the girl's family filed a complaint. Medical exams supported the assault claim, and judicial review was set for preventive measures amid strict minor-protection protocols.

Key Points

  • Suspect, early-20s Latin American new to Andorra, met girl via social media.
  • Girl reported incident to family; hospital confirmed digital penetration evidence.
  • Case transferred to Batllia; pre-constituted evidence gathered Saturday.
  • Investigation ongoing with victim protections; suspect presumed innocent.

Police in Andorra arrested a young man on Friday afternoon on suspicion of sexual assault against a 13-year-old girl, following a complaint filed by the victim's family that morning.

The suspect, a Latin American in his early twenties who had resided in the principality for just one month, was detained after the girl reported the incident to her family shortly after it occurred. She was taken to a hospital, where medical protocols were activated, confirming evidence consistent with digital penetration against her will, according to sources close to the case. The two had connected through social media, building enough trust to arrange an in-person meeting that escalated into the alleged assault. Given the girl's age, any consent would have been legally invalid.

Officers acted swiftly, transferring the case file to the on-duty Batllia that same evening. On Saturday, pre-constituted evidence—statements and other fixed procedures designed to avoid re-victimising the minor—was gathered. The suspect appeared before judicial authorities later that day, when the Batllia was expected to decide on measures such as preventive detention or alternatives.

Police have handled the matter with discretion due to its sensitivity, emphasising protocols to protect the victim's identity and provide appropriate care. The investigation remains open, with further inquiries needed to clarify details. The suspect retains the presumption of innocence pending a final resolution.
