Drunk Man Caught with Loaded Revolver and Knife in Andorra la Vella

Police in Andorra la Vella detained a 60-year-old tourist early Monday on charges of two offences against public safety for possessing prohibited weapons, including a loaded revolver and a knife.

The arrest occurred around 3 a.m. on Avinguda Mitjavila near Carrer Prat de la Creu. Officers spotted the man struggling to walk due to heavy intoxication and offered to escort him to his hotel. A search revealed a revolver in his trouser pocket, loaded with five rounds in the cylinder, and a sheathed knife with a 10-centimetre blade on his belt.

Both items were confiscated on the spot. Firearms and blades exceeding legal limits are banned in Andorra. The man, who had spent hours gambling at a casino on Carrer Prat de la Creu beforehand, did not display the weapons there or elsewhere. He remained in custody overnight and faced a judge Monday afternoon via fast-track proceedings before release with an expulsion order.

His nationality remains undisclosed. Initial inquiries suggested possible connections to a dissolved organized crime group, linked to his history of cross-border weapon transport, though police have released no further information.

The case forms part of a broader police operation that week, which included multiple arrests. On Wednesday morning at Pas de la Casa, officers stopped a vehicle after the driver repeatedly honked and revved the engine, disturbing residents. The 44-year-old male driver, a tourist, tested at 1.72 grams of alcohol per litre. His 38-year-old female companion insulted and threatened officers, resisted arrest and damaged a police vehicle door and window, causing 3,288 euros in harm.

Three other drivers aged 58, 40 and 53 faced detention for alcohol levels of 1.30, 1.25 and 2.16 grams per litre respectively. A 35-year-old tourist was arrested early Sunday for refusing a breath or drug test. At the Riu Runer border, authorities seized 0.95 grams of MDMA and three LSD stamps from a 29-year-old tourist, and 3.3 grams of cocaine from a 43-year-old resident. On Wednesday afternoon, a 41-year-old resident was held for allegedly slapping his partner's underage son during an argument, causing the boy to fall.
