Andorra Tourist Numbers Drop 1.6% in August but Stays Lengthen

Andorra recorded 1,105,986 visitors in August, down 4.9% from the previous year, though tourists stayed longer on average and vehicle entries also fell.

The Department of Statistics reported that of the total, 547,148 were tourists—a 1.6% year-on-year drop—while day-trippers numbered 558,838, an 8% decline. Spanish visitors decreased 4.4% to 444,372, French arrivals fell 8.3% to 539,568, and those from other countries rose 11% to 122,046.

Tourists averaged 3.3 nights, up from 2.9 the year before. Spaniards stayed 3.4 nights on average, compared to 2.8 previously; French visitors averaged 2.6 nights, up from 2.4; and others remained at 4 nights. Hotels, aparthotels, and tourist apartments hosted 87.2% of tourists.

Over the past 12 months, total visitors dropped 2.4%, with tourists up 3.6% and day-trippers down 7.6%. French visitors fell 11.1% in that period, Spaniards rose 1.9%, and others increased 11.7%.

Shopping motivated 36.3% of all visitors, followed by nature activities at 26.7%. Among tourists, nature led at 39.7%; for day-trippers, shopping accounted for 83.4%.

Vehicle entries totaled 429,811, a 5.2% decrease. Passenger cars dropped 5.4%, while heavy vehicles rose 1.3%. Entries from France fell 7.3% to 157,117, compared to a 3.9% drop from Spain to 272,694. From January to August, overall entries declined 5.4%, with Spanish entries down just 0.2% and French down 16.7%.

Visitor-days since the start of the year rose 2.2%, reflecting longer tourist stays despite lower volumes.
