Andorra had an estimated 41,336 households at the end of the third quarter of 2026, with single-person homes the most common type at 37.5% of the total, according to figures published by the statistics department, Estadística.
That share equates to roughly 15,500 one-person households. Homes of three to five people were the second-largest category at 31.9%, or 13,194 households, followed by two-person homes at 25.3%. Just 2,203 households — 5.3% — have more than five members. Taken together, homes of one or two people account for 62.8% of the total, meaning nearly two in three Andorran homes have no more than two occupants.
The figures point to a continuing slight decline in average household size, which stands at 2.18 people per home, down from 2.19 in the previous quarter and 2.20 a year earlier — a quarterly drop of 0.2% and a year-on-year fall of 0.8%. The estimate is based on a resident population of 90,122 as of 30 September.
The number of households rose 0.6% from the second quarter, when there were 41,071, and 2.4% compared with the same point last year, when 40,355 were counted.
Andorra la Vella concentrates by far the most households, with 11,398, followed by Escaldes-Engordany (7,150), Encamp (6,643), La Massana (5,848), Sant Julià de Lòria (4,136) and Canillo (3,722). Ordino has the fewest at 2,439.
Average household size varies widely between parishes. Sant Julià de Lòria has the largest homes, averaging 2.49 members, ahead of Ordino (2.40) and Escaldes-Engordany (2.29). Canillo sits at the other extreme with just 1.77 people per household, the lowest ratio in the country. Encamp records 2.07 and La Massana 2.13, while Andorra la Vella sits exactly at the national average of 2.18.
Over the past quarter, La Massana posted the largest increase in household numbers at 2%, followed by Canillo (1.8%) and Ordino (1.1%). Sant Julià de Lòria was the only parish to decline, by 0.2%, a variation Estadística links in part to a review of census addresses. Ordino was the only parish where the average household size rose over the quarter, by 0.1%, while La Massana saw the steepest fall, at 0.7%.
Year on year, La Massana saw the strongest growth in household numbers, up 5.8%, followed by Escaldes-Engordany (3.5%) and Sant Julià de Lòria (3%). Ordino, Andorra la Vella and Encamp also recorded increases. Canillo is the only parish with an interannual decrease, of 3%, a change Estadística says is largely conditioned by an address standardisation carried out by the parish council. Over the year, Canillo recorded the largest rise in average household size, at 7.1%, while La Massana saw the biggest decline, of 3.4%.
