Andorra's Meteorological Service has raised the alert to orange across the country for heavy snowfall expected from midnight Sunday to Monday afternoon, with forecasts now predicting up to 30cm of accumulation at 1,000m and 40cm above 1,500m.

This upgrade came Sunday afternoon after weather models revised upward from morning estimates of 5cm at 1,000m, 10cm at 1,500m and 15cm at peaks, which had triggered an initial yellow alert nationwide. Sources including Diari d'Andorra and ARA reported the earlier yellow warning for snow spreading to all elevations overnight. The snow line will begin between 1,200m and 1,300m at midnight, then drop quickly to lower levels during the early hours, with the episode ending Monday afternoon.

Civil Protection activated a pre-alert, working with meteorological services, road authorities, COEX and emergency teams to track developments. Live updates are available on www.meteo.ad, the mobility app and official social media channels.

Residents should complete journeys early, prefer public transport over private cars, and ensure vehicles have required winter gear like chains or snow tyres for mandatory use in poor conditions. Previous yellow alert road and mountain safety rules stay active.

Avalanche risk remains at level 3, with easy triggering possible on certain slopes and potential for large slides in spots. Mountain-goers must follow marked ski resort paths, travel in groups, carry safety equipment and inform others of their plans. All agencies are monitoring closely.
