Andorra Reports Zero Journalist Threats on Council of Europe Platform Since 2015

Andorra has recorded no active alerts for the persecution or threats against journalists on the Council of Europe's Platform for the Protection of Journalism since 2015, according to the organisation's annual report on media safety across the continent.

The report, published this morning, examines press freedom in member states and compiles alerts logged over the past year. It highlights a rise in threats, judicial pressure, and attempts at political control over media outlets in several European countries.

Among its key recommendations, the document urges stronger enforcement of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which safeguards freedom of expression. It calls for tackling impunity in crimes against journalists, implementing effective measures against strategic lawsuits aimed at silencing public participation (SLAPPs), and protecting the independence of public broadcasters through stable and transparent funding.

The report also addresses the growing violence against female journalists, particularly online, and presses the European Union to fully implement the European Media Freedom Act. It further advocates bolstering protections against online threats and transnational repression.

Andorra's clean record on the platform underscores its position amid broader continental concerns over media safety.
