Andorra welcomed 9,194,340 visitors in 2025, a 0.7% increase from the revised 2024 figure of 9,127,039, the Department of Statistics reported. The figures reflect a new methodology introduced in January 2025, relying solely on smartphone signals from Andorra Telecom data while excluding machine-to-machine signals from sensors and meters. Validated through comparisons and quality controls, the approach was applied retroactively to 2022-2024 data, now listed as "Visitants (metodologia 2025)" on the department's site. Earlier totals adjusted downward: 2022 to 8,115,773 (down 3.7%); 2023 to 8,934,118 (down 4.6%); and 2024 to 9,127,039 from an initial 9,646,656 (down 5.4%).
Overnight stays drove the growth, rising 12.7% to 4,362,733, while day-trippers dropped 8.1% to 4,831,607. French visitors, the largest group at 3,716,254, declined 7% from 2024's 3,996,088, with excursionists hit hardest at 313,727 fewer. Other nationalities grew 16.6% to 1,087,244, fueled by 28.9% more overnight stays despite a 6.6% dip in day-trippers. Spanish visitors also increased, particularly overnight at 281,848 (up 11.1%).
November recorded 686,096 arrivals—223,841 overnight, mainly Spanish, and 461,255 day-trippers, more than half French. December saw 768,866, with 441,245 overnight and 327,621 excursionists. The two months totaled 1,453,962 visitors: 665,086 overnight and 788,876 day-trippers. Spanish made up 56.1%, French 33.6% (489,080 total: 297,895 in November, 191,185 in December), and others 10.2%. Shopping led motivations at 51.5% in November and 42.3% in December, followed by nature and wellness. Overnight visitors averaged three nights in four-star hotels in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany.
Vehicle entries in January 2026 fell 7.9% to 311,242 from 337,881 in January 2025. At the Spanish border, totals dropped 2.2% to 245,448, with cars down 5.4% (5,612 fewer) though heavy vehicles rose to 13,702. French border entries plunged 24.2% to 65,794 overall and 25.6% to 63,878 for cars from 85,863. Over the 12 months to January 2026, entries totaled 4,175,906, down 3.1% from 4,309,976—Spanish border off 0.5% (15,381 fewer), French border down 8.6% (118,689 fewer). Calendar-adjusted, overall entries held steady at 0.1% in January, with the Spanish border flat at 0% over three months and the French border up 1.2% over four months.
Department officials and reports note that weather-related weekend traffic disruptions at the French border likely contributed, though the RN-20 closure on January 31 cannot explain the full decline, as it occurred only at month's end.
