Canillo Parish Launches €2.5M Ideas Competition for Roc del Quer Viewpoint Expansion

Canillo parish council has launched a national ideas competition for the expansion and enhancement of the Roc del Quer viewpoint, with a maximum indicative budget of €2.5 million, IGI included.

The contest, set for publication in the BOPA tomorrow Wednesday or today Tuesday depending on the edition, targets architects, engineers, and urban planning professionals authorised to practise in Andorra. It calls for innovative, sustainable, and viable conceptual proposals to renew the space while preserving its integration with the high-mountain landscape and natural surroundings. Entries must address durability and maintenance in harsh weather conditions, architectural quality, design innovation, visitor flow management, and technical-economic feasibility within the budget cap.

Cònsol Major Jordi Alcobé said the initiative aims to strengthen Roc del Quer's position as a leading Andorran tourist attraction. He seeks designs that blend innovation with the environment to provide a more distinctive visitor experience, underscoring Canillo's commitment to architectural excellence and sustainable tourism development.

Submissions begin tomorrow, 20 May 2026, and close on 15 July 2026, through the council's administrative services. A jury comprising institutional representatives, technical experts, and professionals from the parish's tourism, hospitality, and business sectors will assess proposals on technical and economic viability, sustainability, design quality, user experience, and overall functionality.

The winning entry earns €10,000, with €1,000 prizes for second through sixth place.

Council officials noted satisfaction with the viewpoint's success since opening but emphasised the need for upgrades to increase capacity, improve functionality, and elevate its iconic status amid growing visitor numbers.
