A 24-year-old man from Encamp faces up to six and a half years in prison after admitting to an armed robbery at a central hotel in the parish on the night of 22-23 August 2025.

The trial unfolded on Tuesday before the Tribunal de Corts. Prosecutors seek six years for qualified robbery with a weapon, after the defendant threatened a receptionist with a hammer and took nearly €900 or €1,000 from the cash register. Additional charges include attempted theft with force, attempted burglary by climbing into an inhabited dwelling—linked to damage at the Plaça del Consell tourist office and entry into a private garden—and a minor offence of possessing and consuming toxic drugs, specifically cocaine alongside alcohol.

The defendant, who had lived in Valladolid for the eight months beforehand, confessed during his arrest about a day and a half later—on the Sunday afternoon near the crime's starting point—and again in court. A major police operation followed the incidents, which caused widespread alarm in Encamp.

His defence attributes the episode to post-traumatic depression following his mother's death in a traffic accident, noting he acted impulsively under the influence that night. They request he serve only the eight months already spent in provisional custody, during which he has undergone psychological treatment. The hotel receptionist testified to fearing for his life, describing lasting psychological effects that have undermined his sense of safety at work.

The case remains before the court, with no verdict reported yet.
