Escaldes-Engordany parish council is set to start construction on Monday, February 23, converting the sports area at Prat del Roure into a green public space that will add more than 2,000 square metres of usable land.

The project, on Carrer dels Veedors between Carrer Paraires and Passatge d’Arnaldeta de Caboet in a busy part of the parish, replaces current tennis and mini-basketball courts with 1,925 square metres of landscaped gardens and 800 square metres of children's play area featuring inclusive elements.

From February 23, the tennis courts will close, with school tennis classes moving temporarily to the Prat Gran pavilion and facilities in Encamp. Authorities point out that new tennis courts will open soon above the communal Falgueró car park, enabling local sports to continue.

The initiative expands and unifies the existing green area at Prat del Roure, improving links to nearby streets and the Clot d’Emprivat zone. It includes tree planting, natural grass installation, upgraded public lighting, and family-oriented leisure spots.

Parish officials view the changes as a way to turn underutilised sports facilities into an open, central hub that encourages outdoor family use.
