Firefighters Probe Burnt Smell and Smoke in Two Andorra la Vella Incidents Saturday

Firefighters in Andorra la Vella responded to two separate emergency calls on Saturday afternoon, investigating a burnt plastic odour at a hotel on Avinguda Meritxell and smoke reported inside an apartment on Carrer de l'Alzinaret.

The first incident occurred shortly after 2pm at number 34 on the upper section of the capital's main commercial street. Emergency services, including police, firefighters and a precautionary SUM ambulance, attended the hotel. Traffic officers from the Andorra la Vella commune set up alternative routes to manage flow around the area.

Hotel staff quickly dismissed concerns of an active fire or open flames, confirming it as a false alarm. Fire crews, stationed directly outside the premises—where similar incidents have happened previously—traced the smell to the laundry area. No fire or smoke was present, but they identified an electrical fault as the source. Technicians were summoned to inspect and repair the facilities.

Fire service representatives stressed their policy of rapid deployment to avoid any potential risks from delayed responses. Police, firefighters and medics stayed on site to oversee the checks. No injuries occurred, with only brief traffic disruptions reported.

Later, around 4:15pm, a second call prompted firefighters to Carrer de l'Alzinaret for reported smoke in an apartment. They arrived with a fire truck, joined by police and communal traffic services.
