Inmate's Detailed Prison Escape Map Found Days After Threat

Prison guards at La Comella penitentiary have discovered a detailed hand-drawn map of the facility in the possession of a 44-year-old inmate, days after he announced plans to escape.

The man, who has been detained for several months, faces extradition to Spain. He was convicted by the Audiència de Sevilla for sexually assaulting the underage daughters of a former partner. Spanish authorities seek his return to serve the sentence, which he allegedly fled by moving to Andorra in 2019—a claim he denies.

The map's discovery came amid heightened surveillance following his escape threat. Officials described the inmate's sketch as remarkably precise, though they assessed the likelihood of a successful breakout as very low. Sources indicate no new charges are expected from the find, with penitentiary authorities prioritizing his swift extradition pending judicial approval.

The inmate awaits a decision from the penal chamber of Andorra's Superior Court, expected to greenlight the handover barring last-minute changes. He opposes it, citing chronic mental health disorders worsened by the recent death of his 18-year-old son. The young man, who lived with his father in Andorra, died in Seville while staying with his mother—the same woman who reported the original assaults.
