Key Points

  • Visible waste containers on high platforms hinder handling for users and workers.
  • New paving causes vehicle issues on Avinguda Verge de Canòlich with temporary plates.
  • Planned fixes: ramps and enclosures for bins, slope reduction on kerbs, anti-parking measures.
  • Benefits include pedestrian priority, removed dirt area, added trees for shade.

Residents of the Laurèdia neighbourhood in Sant Julià de Lòria continue to criticise aspects of the ongoing remodelling of Calonge-Sant Antoni square, in front of the LAUEsport sports centre, but local authorities have responded by stressing that work remains unfinished and planned fixes will address key complaints.

Neighbours have highlighted visible waste containers, previously buried and prone to sanitation issues, now positioned on high, stepped concrete platforms that hinder handling. Users and waste collection workers alike report difficulties manoeuvring the bins for emptying and repositioning. Another issue is the new paving extending to Avinguda Verge de Canòlich, a route still used by vehicles, where temporary metal plates have been fitted to ease a sharp height drop to the existing asphalt.

Comú officials acknowledged these "legitimate" concerns in a statement, noting that the project is not yet complete. They outlined three priority tasks ahead: installing ramps on the platforms and enclosures to conceal the containers; reducing the excessive slope on kerb ramps, identified during construction; and adding new signage and features to prevent vehicle parking. The plates, they added, are provisional until these works proceed.

Authorities emphasised broader gains, including the removal of a former dirt hotspot, a more open layout prioritising pedestrians over cars, and additional trees for summer shade and greenery. While not every project pleases all, they said, final details will be resolved soon.
