**Police arrest two women for shoplifting spree in Andorra la Vella commercial district**
Andorran police detained two non-resident women, aged 30 and 34, on Sunday afternoon for multiple thefts from shops along the main commercial axis in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. The suspects, originally from Kosovo but living in France, stole clothing, tobacco and alcohol worth around 900 euros from three stores, exceeding the 600-euro threshold for criminal charges.
A security guard at a well-known multi-brand clothing store on Avinguda Meritxell spotted one of the women, whom he recognised from a previous incident in 2024 involving similar thefts. He followed her discreetly after noticing suspicious behaviour and suspected items had been taken. Police were alerted immediately, and officers tracked the women to a private car park near a central hypermarket on the same avenue.
The pursuit led to both women and their French-registered Renault Clio, used to transport and store the stolen goods. Officers recovered at least some of the merchandise from the vehicle. One woman also carried a small amount of marijuana. The pair, known for prior offences elsewhere, were taken with the car to the police headquarters on Carrer Ciutat de Sabadell for inventory checks and to await potential complaints from affected stores.
They appeared before a judge shortly after, likely facing fast-track proceedings with penalties replaced by a minimum seven-year expulsion order.
Such organised shoplifting rises during peak tourist seasons, when high visitor numbers aid professional thieves targeting busy outlets.
**Separate arrests for drugs and drink-driving**
Over the past week, police detained six tourists at borders for public health offences: five at the Riu Runer crossing with Spain, one at the French border. A 30-year-old man carried 30ml of liquid cocaine, 2.62g of heroin, 0.59g of hashish and 1.35g of marijuana. Others included a 27-year-old with 0.1g of ecstasy and 0.59g of cocaine; two men aged 28 and 30 together with 6.5g of tusi and 3.4g of hashish; a 25-year-old with 0.28g of cocaine; and a 35-year-old with 0.5g of ecstasy.
Five men, aged 20 to 35 and four tourists, were arrested for drink-driving across the road network, with blood alcohol levels from 0.89 to 2.11.
