Construction work has begun this week on expanding the University of Andorra's facilities at the Reig factory site. The project, awarded to Pidasa Serveis on 5 November last year for €5.8 million, is scheduled to last 18 months, with the new spaces ready for use at the start of the 2027-28 academic year.

The works focus on fitting out interior partitions for the additional areas, installing a new lift to meet the university rectorate's requirements, and making targeted upgrades. These include reusing the existing structure, facades, and roof while enhancing the building's waterproofing and energy efficiency.

Once complete, the expanded facilities will house multiple classrooms, a 292-square-metre multifunctional auditorium on the third floor, administrative offices including space for the rectorate, and dedicated student areas for meetings and collaborative work.

The site was selected after the government evaluated several buildings near the university's current campus capable of providing at least 2,600 square metres of extra space. Only the Reig factory met the criteria. In January 2023, the Ministry of Education, led by Minister Ester Vilarrubla, signed a 35-year lease—extendable—with owner Marta Ribas.
