A 34-year-old non-resident was detained Friday afternoon in Andorra la Vella after a member of the public alerted police to a man seen attempting to remove an item from a woman’s backpack. Officers stopped and controlled the suspect at the scene.

Checks by police revealed the man was the subject of a judicial search-and-arrest order issued in October 2018 linked to an investigation into several wallet thefts and the fraudulent use of stolen credit cards. Investigators at that time identified him as a suspect alongside four others.

He has been formally accused of offences against property — thefts totalling more than €600 — and of improper use of credit cards. Following his arrest he was taken into custody.

Police said the public tip was instrumental in locating and detaining the suspect.
