Andorra la Vella Youth Councillors Secure Unanimous Backing for Proposals on Communication, Leisure and Safety

Youth councillors from Andorra la Vella's schools presented proposals at this morning's Consell de Joves to enhance communication, leisure options and safety measures for young people, securing unanimous backing from the parish council.

Students from Col·legi Maria Janer called for stronger promotion of the existing *El Rusc* youth magazine after an internal survey revealed many peers were unaware of it. They suggested targeting WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram, radio ads, cinema spots, posters and school talks, noting that few followed its social media channels.

Pupils from Col·legi Maria Moliner advocated a new quarterly magazine in print and digital formats to amplify young voices, challenge stereotypes and cover culture, leisure, opinions, health and sports. The idea received full council approval.

Representatives from British College of Andorra pitched a mobile app as a one-stop digital agenda, with calendars, notifications, discounts and interactive maps, at a projected cost of €6,000 to €12,000. The council endorsed it without dissent.

Delegates from Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança de Santa Coloma sought upgrades to the Obac stream area for greater safety, accessibility and appeal, including lighting, picnic zones, QR-coded signs, bike access and efforts to highlight natural heritage and sustainability.

Lycée Comte de Foix students proposed a contest for 12- to 17-year-olds to produce 60-second videos or digital posters addressing social issues, encouraging respectful expression and critical thinking.

Col·legi Sant Ermengol pupils outlined 'Trucand', a parish-wide network of emergency call points at shops and other spots for situations like dead phone batteries or lost devices.

Cònsol Menor Olalla Losada described the ideas as "very good proposals" that were "possible to implement". She committed to refining them alongside the young participants, highlighting this year's new approach of soliciting direct input from schools and youth groups to pinpoint gaps, particularly in communication. Losada acknowledged challenges in engaging youth, observing that existing channels like *El Rusc*'s social media had failed to attract followers.

The parish authorities stressed the proposals' feasibility in addressing identified needs. A follow-up intergenerational citizen council session is set for 14 May, from 10:15am to 12:45pm, focusing on civility, coexistence across generations and dismantling age stereotypes.
