Acció per Andorra reaffirms strong support for EU Association Agreement amid controversies

Acció per Andorra has reaffirmed its strong backing for the Association Agreement with the European Union amid recent controversies surrounding the project.

The party, part of the governing majority and the State Pact, described the agreement as essential to securing political stability, competitiveness, and prosperity for Andorra over the coming decades. In a statement from Andorra la Vella, it called for rigorous debate grounded in data and facts, rather than approaches driven by fear, uncertainty, or obstruction.

Acció per Andorra insisted the deal does not amount to giving up Andorran sovereignty. Instead, it positions the agreement as a means to strengthen it within an increasingly complex and interconnected global landscape. The party highlighted the need for stable, clear, and modern ties with Europe to safeguard the country's economic model, draw high-quality investment, expand key sectors, and create job prospects for young people.

While acknowledging legitimate concerns over housing, demographic growth, implementation costs, competition from European courts, and economic sustainability, the formation argued these issues would persist even without the agreement. It stressed that rejecting the deal would limit the tools, legal certainty, and economic appeal required to address them effectively.

The party advocated responsible, negotiated openness over isolation, noting that the agreement includes specific provisions and transition periods to protect Andorra's unique characteristics and align integration with local realities. Acció per Andorra reiterated its commitment to an accord that would position the Principality as a modern, outward-looking, and economically resilient nation while preserving its sovereignty, identity, institutions, and distinct features.
