Andorran Government Presents Updated Disability Rights Bill to Associations

The Andorran government presented the latest draft of the Projecte de Llei de Garantia dels Drets de les Persones amb Discapacitat to representatives from disability associations during an extraordinary meeting of the Consell Nacional de la Discapacitat (Conadis) on Tuesday.

Head of Government Xavier Espot led the session, held at the government's administrative building in Andorra la Vella. The draft updates existing legislation to align with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and incorporates recommendations from the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Attendees included Minister of Social Affairs Trini Marín, Minister of Health Helena Mas, and Secretaries of State Ester Cervós, Cristina Pérez, and Josep Anton Bardina. Representatives from local institutions, disability associations, and service providers also participated.

The government aims to submit the bill to the Consell General for parliamentary process before the summer session period ends. Associations now have the coming weeks—specifically one month, according to some accounts—to review the document and submit feedback.

This step follows the government's intent to bring the legislation into formal debate during the current session cycle, adapting national standards to international obligations.
