Catherine Métayer Re-elected as French Residents' Representative on Andorra's Consular Council with 58% of Vote

Catherine Métayer has been officially re-elected as the French residents' representative on Andorra's Consular Council, securing 246 votes against Virginie Hergel's 178 in an election marked by record turnout.

Final results from the French embassy, published Monday after validation of electronic ballots, show Métayer's independent list Continuons à l'unisson taking 191 online votes from May 22-27 and 55 in-person ballots on May 31. Hergel's list, backed by the Alliance Solidaire des Français de l'Étranger and featuring Mathieu Deleris as deputy, received 150 online and 28 in-person votes. Out of 447 total ballots from 2,808 registered voters, 21 were blank and two null, yielding 424 valid votes. Métayer claimed 58% of those for her six-year term, with Christophe Combe as deputy.

Provisional counts shared by Métayer on social media during the in-person voting on Sunday—when 83 people had voted by late afternoon, adding to 362 online ballots—already pointed to her lead. Embassy officials noted turnout at roughly 16%, doubling the 10% from 2021, driven by online access and the head-to-head race between the two established candidates.

In-person polling ran from 8am to 6pm at the embassy, supplementing the 341 online votes cast earlier. Early reports had cited slightly varying figures, such as around 445-450 total ballots and turnout near 16.5-17%, but official tallies settled on 447 participants.

The Consular Council advises on expatriate community matters. These elections form part of a global process electing 432 councillors worldwide in 2025.
