Guillem Casal rules out leading Andorra centre-right coalition for elections

Guillem Casal, secretary general of Demòcrates, has ruled out any consideration of leading a centre-right coalition candidacy for Andorra's next general elections. In comments to media outlets on Monday morning, he stressed that discussions must first identify common ground among parties before addressing leadership.

Casal, who also serves in the government, made the remarks amid efforts to form a broad centre-right alliance ahead of the vote. He noted there are still several months to finalise both a candidate and a programme. "We must find points in common and, from there, reach agreement with those who add value and want to advance this perspective, without preconditions, only with concrete programmatic lines," the minister said.

He reiterated that Demòcrates has no predetermined candidate and intends to engage other formations to build a unified platform. The party aims to serve as an aggregating force across the centre-right spectrum, prioritising shared goals over individual names.

The statement follows Prime Minister Xavier Espot's push for collaboration after Meritxell Bhatia's term. Recent speculation had focused on figures such as Demòcrates president and minister Ladislau Baró, though his position appeared to have diminished before summer. Casal dismissed personal ambitions for the top role, saying he had not even contemplated it, and pledged to help develop the party's electoral platform in his current position.
