Andorra's Concòrdia Unanimously Backs Cerni Escalé as 2027 Election Leader

Concòrdia, Andorra's main opposition party, unanimously ratified Cerni Escalé as its candidate for head of government on the national list for next year's general elections during a key assembly on Monday evening.

More than 70 participants attended, including all elected party officials across the country. Escalé, current president of the parliamentary group, secured the role without rivals, marking his second time leading the national ticket. He outlined the party's policy lines and national strategy, focusing on areas such as housing, territorial protection, welfare, identity, and social cohesion. The session also marked the completion of the first phase of the electoral program, which will shape all candidatures.

The assembly highlighted internal unity and contrasted the party's clarity with uncertainties at the Democrats-led government. Party sources noted Escalé's broad consensus within the ranks. A decision on his number two spot remains pending, with current co-president Núria Segués emerging as the leading option for continuity from the 2023 ticket. Some voices have suggested she could also suit a territorial role in the capital.

An emotional highlight came with a tribute to Cuca Diumenjó, a founding member who died suddenly this summer. Executive member Meritxell Queró praised her dedication and collaboration with the project, prompting extended applause.

Recent surveys position Concòrdia as the leading challenger to the government. The party has committed to running independently in the national constituency, advancing preparations for the 2027 vote amid evident cohesion and no signs of division.
