A non-resident man was arrested in Andorra la Vella on the night of Thursday 15 October after displaying two knives and threatening people at two separate establishments, according to police sources.

The incidents began at around 9 pm at a bar on Carrer Bonaventura Riberaygua, where the man showed the knives and threatened to attack anyone who crossed his path. According to Altaveu, he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time, and he was described as being in an agitated state.

When he realised police had been alerted, he left the venue. He is believed to have taken his own vehicle and driven to a second establishment in the Prat de la Creu area, which Diari d'Andorra identifies as a service station. Altaveu reports that the second location is a restaurant with a well-known terrace, and that the man may have chosen it by chance rather than by design.

Police, already aware of the earlier incident, responded quickly and stopped him outside the second location. He was arrested shortly before 9:30 pm, about half an hour after the first incident. According to Altaveu, the police check took place outside the premises.

He faces at least two charges: one against collective security for displaying the knives, and one against freedom for the threats. A routine breathalyser test did not show a significant alcohol level, and Altaveu reported that he would not even have committed an administrative offence had he been stopped while driving.

Little has been established about his motives. According to Altaveu, he appeared to have no grievance against anyone and said during his detention that he had come to Andorra to spend the day, before his behaviour changed towards the evening.

Diari d'Andorra reported on Friday 16 October that the man remained in police custody. Altaveu noted that further details could emerge during the course of that Friday.
