Andorra Endavant has sharply criticised the parliamentary majority's rejection of a fully funded invitation from China to host a Consell General delegation, describing the move as a missed chance to build institutional, economic, and technological ties.
In a statement, the opposition party, headed by Carine Montaner, condemned the decision—led by Demòcrates—as shortsighted. The offer, which reached the Foreign Affairs committee ahead of summer, promised to cover all travel costs and feature discussions on partnerships, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and visits to hospitals showcasing these technologies in diagnostics, emergencies, and patient treatment.
Andorra Endavant argued that the majority's cited reason—the proximity of elections—did not hold, as six to seven months remained before the vote when the invitation arrived. While Demòcrates opposed forming a delegation, parties like Ciutadans Compromesos expressed interest, the group noted. It also faulted the extended silence on the proposal, even in refusal, as potentially signalling disinterest to Chinese officials and eroding goodwill.
The party called on the Consell General to resume contact, issue an apology for the delay, formally thank China for the gesture, and seek to reschedule the trip. "Andorra needs to engage with global powers and seize such opportunities," it urged, stressing the value of prompt, respectful responses to institutional overtures.
