Andorra's government plans to submit its bill guaranteeing the rights of people with disabilities to the Consell General for parliamentary processing during the current session, ahead of the summer recess.

Head of Government Xavier Espot presented the draft legislation during an extraordinary meeting of the National Disability Council (Conadis) on Tuesday at the government's administrative building in Andorra la Vella. Espot chaired the session, attended by Social Affairs Minister Trini Marín, Health Minister Helena Mas, State Secretaries Ester Cervós, Cristina Pérez and Josep Anton Bardina, along with representatives from disability associations, service providers and other local institutions.

The bill updates current regulations by integrating provisions from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as recommendations from the UN committee on the matter. Government officials described the reforms as steps to bolster rights protections, foster inclusion and promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities.

Disability associations and sector organisations now have up to one month to review the draft and submit contributions or suggested changes. The executive intends to incorporate relevant feedback before advancing the bill to parliament.
