Andorra's head of government, Xavier Espot, visited key projects in Sant Julià de Lòria on Monday alongside ministers, parish consuls, and general councillors, confirming executive investments exceeding €50 million in the parish over this legislative term.
The working session reviewed progress on infrastructure, housing, education, and social facilities. Espot highlighted the Rocafort road and tunnel, which will finalise the CG-1 bypass, improve mobility, and reduce urban centre traffic. He described the works as advancing steadily.
Affordable housing initiatives include the rehabilitation of the former Font de Ferro hotel into 15 rental units ready for allocation soon, plus three new homes under construction on Doctor Palau street. The Laurus Foundation is also advancing a complex with over 50 senior residences and shared services, slated to open in early 2028.
In education and research, the old CATSA tobacco factory is being transformed into an innovation hub, positioning Sant Julià as a reference for research in the Pyrenees and southern Europe. The University of Andorra will expand into the former Reig factory, gaining nearly 3,000 square metres of classrooms and study spaces for the 2027-2028 academic year. The government has committed to partnering with the commune to convert the former Hotel Pol into a 70-room student residence.
Sant Julià's minor consul, Sofia Cortesao, described the coordination between administrations over the past two years as "excellent," praising the momentum on projects like Rocafort, CATSA, the university expansion, and senior housing. She expressed optimism about launching the student residence, stressing the need for joint efforts among institutions to benefit the parish and country. These developments aim to enhance residents' quality of life while bolstering Andorra's profile in mobility, innovation, and higher education.
