Students from three northern Andorran schools presented proposals to improve youth facilities and community engagement at the second edition of the Adolescents' Council of the Northern Valleys, held this morning in the Massana communal council chamber.
The event brought together secondary students from the Andorran School of Ordino, Àgora International School, and the Massana Vocational Training Centre. Designed to give young people a direct voice in the affairs of the Massana and Ordino parishes, the initiative allows them to share ideas with political teams and peers.
Massana's cònsol, Eva Sansa, praised the participants' commitment, stating that the young people had shown "involvement, concerns, and courage" in putting forward their suggestions. Ordino's senior cònsol, Maria del Mar Coma, noted a clear improvement in the quality of the work compared to last year, describing the submissions as more thorough. She encouraged the groups to bolster their ideas with surveys and data ahead of the next session.
The Andorran School students called for upgrades to youth wellbeing and leisure spaces in Massana and Ordino, aiming to make them more appealing and suited to teenagers' needs. The vocational centre group proposed extending opening hours at the Youth Centre to broaden access. Representatives from Àgora International School suggested establishing a solidarity collection point to promote cooperation and mutual aid among residents.
Political representatives welcomed the high standard of the proposals and the students' engagement. Following a vote, the first two initiatives—improving leisure spaces and expanding Youth Centre hours—gained approval. The students must now develop them further for resubmission at the council's next meeting in May, to be held in the Ordino commune.
