- Former General Councillor of Canillo and founder of Hotel Naudí in Soldeu passed away at home after a recent aggressive illness diagnosis.
Miquel (Michel) Naudí Clop, a hotelier and former General Councillor who held prominent roles in Canillo's local politics, has died at his home at the age of 77. The news has prompted mourning in Soldeu, where he helped establish the Hotel Naudí, now led by his son Marc.
Naudí, from Cal Marsal de Peretol and born in 1948 to parents Marcel and Rosa, married in 1974. He had recently received a diagnosis of an aggressive illness. His death occurred on Sunday, January 11.
A wake is taking place at Tanatori Mereig in Soldeu, with sessions scheduled from 4pm to 8pm on Sunday and from 10am to 1pm on Monday. The funeral mass will follow at 3:45pm on Monday at Sant Bartomeu church in Soldeu, where family members will receive condolences.
Naudí's public service began early. At age 30, he served as Canillo's conseller menor for 1978-1979 under conseller major Pere Rossa, making him the longest-serving former holder of that role still alive. He then acted as conseller del comú from 1980 to 1983.
Elected as General Councillor for Canillo on December 10, 1981—alongside Josep Casal i Puigcernal, Jordi Font i Cabanes, and Xavier Escrivà i Torres—he served until February 8, 1983, as part of the Democrats parliamentary group. This period coincided with the creation of Andorra's first Executive Council under Òscar Ribas, which sparked tensions with the General Council.
Naudí returned to local politics decades later, joining the Democrats slate headed by Josep Mandicó and David Palmitjavila ahead of the 2015 communal elections—the only list in Canillo. He served as conseller comunal from 2016 to 2019, chairing the agriculture commission and advocating during the campaign for upgrades to Soldeu's ski slope base stations.
Originally from the primary sector, Naudí exemplified many Canillo residents' shift into business, social leadership, and politics.
