Nearly 350 skiers took part in the third edition of the Mamba Ski Race by Joan Verdú on Saturday at Grandvalira's El Tarter sector, drawing over 1,000 spectators and cementing its status as a highlight to end the ski season.

The event unfolded under ideal conditions, with clear skies, warm temperatures, and excellent snow quality from accumulated snowfall. Held on the demanding Àliga piste—familiar from FIS World Cup races—the competition featured Big Mamba and Small Mamba categories. Participants tackled a giant slalom course laced with fun challenges, including a pool to cross midway, blending high-level racing with a playful vibe. Prizes went not only to top finishers but also for the best costumes, adding colour and creativity.

Catalan World Cup skier Albert Ortega claimed victory in the men's category with a time of 3:38.719, while Berta Oriol topped the women's with 4:18.218. Event founder Joan Verdú joined the race but did not compete for awards.

Verdú expressed delight at the turnout and atmosphere. He thanked the young participants and their parents, noting the fine weather and piste conditions made for an engaging day. "I'm very happy to see so many people and ski enthusiasts on a day like this," he said. "It's the third time we've run La Mamba, and we're still putting in lots of energy and passion so everyone has a great experience—I think we're achieving that."

The Hotel Nòrdic village served as the hub, hosting live music, workshops, games, and raffles to extend the festive mood. The race marks the close of Verdú's competitive season. Grandvalira plans to shut its lifts on Monday, though Ordino Arcalís will stay open until 12 April for dedicated skiers.
