Key Points

  • Andorra's futsal team topped Group A with perfect 3-0 record, scoring 20 goals and conceding 3 in Futsal World Championship qualifiers.
  • Crushed Scotland 10-0 (record win), Malta 5-0, and Denmark 5-3 to qualify for historic Main Round.
  • Key scorers: Josep Segura (hat-trick vs Scotland), Christian Regalo (multiple goals), Arnau Rodríguez injured late vs Malta.

Andorra's futsal team completed a perfect preliminary group stage at the Futsal World Championship qualifiers in Hjørring, Denmark, defeating hosts Denmark 5-3 on Saturday to top Group A with three wins from three matches.

Coached by Talín Puyaltó, the Tricolors scored 20 goals while conceding just three, securing their historic first qualification for the Main Round. The run began with a record 10-0 win over Scotland at Park Vendia Hallen—Andorra's biggest margin in any official or friendly match. Josep Segura netted a hat-trick, Adrià Blat scored twice, and single goals came from Èric Mesquita, Brayan Pinto (also known as dos Santos), Christian Regalo, Óscar San Segundo, and an own goal by Scotland's Ahmed Aloulou.

The next day, Andorra beat Malta 5-0 after a 15-minute delay due to the opponents' bus issues. Arnau Rodríguez scored in the second minute from a deep pass by his brother Oriol "Uri" Rodríguez. Regalo added a chip over keeper Clint Mifsud before halftime, following a run by Blat. Pinto made it 3-0 early in the second half, which Mifsud mishandled. Mifsud was then red-carded for fouling Claudi Bové, leading to Segura's curling free kick. Regalo completed his brace on a counterattack as Malta adopted a goalkeeper-player formation, with Andorra's defense standing firm. The win clinched Main Round qualification, though Rodríguez suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon on the other leg—his second such injury after recovering from the first—30 seconds from time. Puyaltó called it a bittersweet day, praising the team's defensive solidity and patience against a physical side with international experience. He noted the players' quality exceeded expectations and highlighted their growth, as seen in the recent preliminary Euro round.

Denmark had earlier beaten Malta 5-1 and Scotland 3-1, making the finale a battle for top spot. Andorra led through Bové and Regalo, but Denmark equalized at 2-2 via Rasmussen and Kasumovic, then leveled again at 3-3 through Kristensen after dos Santos restored the lead. Late goals from Oriol Rodríguez and Regalo's second sealed the 5-3 victory. Minor discrepancies exist in some reports over early Denmark match scorers, with one mentioning Roc Torres instead of Bové, but the sequence and outcome align across accounts.

Main Round opponents, potentially including Spain or Portugal, will be drawn in May.
