Andorra Turisme has allocated €170,000 to sponsor the fourth stage of La Vuelta a España, a 104.9-km route set entirely within the Principality on 25 August. The stage will start and finish in Andorra la Vella, tackling four mountain passes: Envalira, Beixalís, Ordino and La Comella.
The direct contract with Unipublic SAU, the race organiser, was finalised on 31 March and published in the Butlletí Oficial del Principat d'Andorra (BOPA) this week. It draws from Andorra Turisme's sports and cultural sponsorship budget, under the direction of Betim Budzaku. While most outlets describe the event for this summer—as the 82nd edition begins in Monaco with a time trial, followed by stages in France before reaching Andorra on day four—El Periòdic specifies La Vuelta 2026. Authorities have not clarified the exact year.
The initiative aims to position Andorra as a prime cycle tourism destination, building on government efforts to attract amateur riders to its mountain cols and spectators to professional events. La Vuelta, one of cycling's three Grand Tours with the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia, offers global exposure for local routes and infrastructure.
This fully Andorran stage represents a notable return for the race. Past visits, such as the 2015 full stage and the 2023 start-finish, cost between €250,000 and €280,000, including logistics like setup for departures and arrivals—expenses not covered in the published €170,000 figure, which includes IGI tax. The sponsorship supports year-round active tourism by highlighting the Principality's terrain to international audiences.
