Edgar Montellà, the Encamp-based Andorran rally driver, has outlined his 2026 racing programme, shifting his focus to the Andorran Mountain Automobilism Championship (CAAM) organised by the ACA. He will compete in a new Yacar Carcross, a 600cc speed car with around 130 horsepower.
The move comes after a successful 2025 season in the Spanish Autohebdo Sport Mountain Championship, where Montellà secured victory in Class 11 and runner-up position in Class 3. After six years in the same category and vehicle, he opted for a change to pursue fresh challenges with the versatile Yacar. The car enables participation in CAAM events as well as Spanish mountain races, GSeries competitions and dirt track events.
Montellà described the switch as a major motivation. "Having a different vehicle with so many possibilities is a great boost," he said. He has not yet tested the car and plans to adapt quickly at the season opener on 30 May with the Arinsal Hill Climb, followed by rounds at Arcalís, La Peguera and Beixalís.
Sponsored by AnyósPark and others, Montellà highlighted the Yacar's polivalence across disciplines. He left open the possibility of entering the Dakar Rally in future, should adequate funding materialise.
