Man, 52, Falls 9m from Canillo Climbing Wall, Stable in ICU

A 52-year-old man who fell nine metres from a climbing wall in Canillo remains hospitalised in intensive care with a stable prognosis, pending further evolution, after sustaining serious injuries in Sunday's accident.

The resident, who was climbing alone at the Les Moles facility near Sant Joan de Caselles, plummeted around 14:42 when a securing element apparently failed, according to initial police indications. He stayed conscious throughout, communicating with medics despite multiple traumas, but the injuries' severity—coupled with road access issues from the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica cycling race—prompted a helicopter evacuation to Nostra Senyora de Meritxell Hospital.

Firefighters from the Canillo station, police, local traffic agents and ambulance staff responded swiftly to the alert. On-site teams stabilised the man before the airlift. Police technical intervention unit members, including the mountain group, launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage to determine exact circumstances.

Hospital sources confirmed Monday that the patient is in the ICU, stable but under close monitoring. No further details on his condition or the fall's cause have been released, as the probe continues.
