Trail 100 Andorra by UTMB Hits Record 3,800 Runners from 50+ Countries

The Trail 100 Andorra by UTMB shatters records with 3,800 entrants from 50+ nations, solidifying its elite status in the UTMB World Series while driving sustainable tourism in Andorra.

Key Points

  • Near-4,000 participants from over 50 countries, up 600 from last year; all distances sold out in two months.
  • Local Andorran runners at 6% (230 athletes), women at 24% (700 entrants).
  • Event starts June 12 with Trail Kids; UTMB World Series qualifier boosting off-season tourism.
  • Hosting deal with Andorra Turisme runs to 2027, with renewal talks underway.

The sixth edition of the Trail 100 Andorra by UTMB has drawn a record near-4,000 participants—around 3,800 runners from more than 50 countries—with France, Spain, and Andorra topping the list, cementing the event's status within the UTMB World Series.

Organizers announced the milestone figure at Tuesday's launch event in Ordino, up 600 from last year's 3,200. Entries across the five main distances—10km, 21km, 50km, 80km, and 105km—sold out within just over two months. Local runners now represent 6% of the field, roughly 230 athletes, compared to 4-4.5% in prior years, while women comprise nearly 24%, or about 700 entrants.

Agustí Pérez (also referred to as Agustí Capdevila), director for IRONMAN Southern Europe/The IRONMAN Group, credited the growth to strong collaboration among institutions. He described the race as "the Champions League of world trail running," praising its elite level and challenging terrain, but stressed safety as the top priority. Reaching 4,000 next year would be impressive, he said, though unchecked expansion is not the aim.

The program kicks off on 12 June at 6pm with the Trail Kids event, followed by the main races and side activities throughout the week in Ordino and across Andorra, aiding local commerce and shoulder-season tourism.

Tourism and Commerce Minister Jordi Torres highlighted the event's value in attracting global visitors outside peak times and positioning Andorra as a premier mountain sports destination. It also serves as a qualifier for the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc. Ordino First Consul Major Maria del Mar Coma noted its alignment with the parish's sustainable tourism model, allowing athletes to connect with local heritage.

Andorran runner Ariadna Fenés, speaking at the launch, emphasized the unique thrill of racing at home despite the added pressure from supporters along the route. She will not compete this year but said crossing the finish line locally is unmatched.

Last year's edition featured 94% international participants, who traveled with an average of 2.6 companions, stayed 2.9 nights, rated the event 8/10, and cited it as their primary reason for visiting in 93% of cases.

The current hosting deal with Andorra Turisme extends to 2027, with both sides negotiating renewal and planning to sustain it long-term alongside the Andorra Epic as key international draws.
