FC Andorra has secured a major signing with Girona-born goalkeeper Pau López, who is set to join from Real Betis on a three-year contract.
The 34-year-old, who sought a transfer for family reasons despite two years remaining on his Betis deal, has finalised terms with the Tricolours. He agreed to waive outstanding payments to enable the move, and Betis has approved his departure while pursuing Villarreal's Diego Conde as a replacement. The operation now awaits only official confirmation.
López opted for Andorra over interest from RCD Mallorca, drawn by the club's location near his hometown. His arrival bolsters a critical position ahead of the new season, where only Nico Ratti remains from the current goalkeeping options following the exits of loanees Jesús Owono and Áron Yaakobishvili. Jan Lagunas from Gimnàstic de Manresa has joined preseason training under coach Carles Manso, with López poised to add substantial experience alongside Ratti and a planned third keeper.
At Betis, last season's Champions League participants, López started as first choice until a November muscle injury paved the way for Álvaro Valles. The Spaniard, capped at senior international level, began his professional career at Espanyol after rising through its youth system, where he made 67 appearances over three seasons. He later moved to Tottenham in 2016 before returning on loan, then joined Roma for two years, had spells at Marseille and Mexico's Toluca, and returned to Betis last summer.
