FC Andorra has officially signed Girona-born goalkeeper Pau López to a three-year contract, with an option for a fourth season. The 31-year-old, who arrives in the Principality on Tuesday, joins as a free agent after leaving Real Betis.
The club confirmed the deal on Thursday, bringing high-level experience from Europe's elite competitions to the Tricolours' squad. López, born on 13 December 1994 in Sant Gregori, progressed through Espanyol's youth system with 67 first-team appearances before moves to Tottenham in 2016, a loan return to Espanyol, and a permanent transfer to Betis. Roma signed him for over €23 million in 2019, followed by spells at Marseille, Girona, and Mexico's Toluca—where he won the 2024-25 Clausura title—prior to rejoining Betis last summer. He has also earned caps for Spain's senior national team.
López turned down other offers, including from RCD Mallorca, prioritising the club's proximity to his family roots. He forwent outstanding payments from Betis, where two years remained on his contract, having served as the team's primary goalkeeper until a November muscular injury opened the door for Álvaro Valles.
The signing addresses gaps in the goalkeeping department, with only Nico Ratti remaining after the departures of loanees Jesús Owono and Áron Yaakobishvili. Gimnàstic de Manresa's Jan Lagunas has been on trial under coach Carles Manso, and further reinforcements are planned.
The announcement comes late in the preseason, as FC Andorra prepared for their second friendly against England's Stevenage on Friday morning at 11:00 in San Pedro del Pinatar. New signing Juan Sebastián, meanwhile, described the club as "a very attractive project" with an ideal environment for rapid player development. The full-back highlighted how his offensive profile, experience, and defensive duel capabilities align with the team's needs.
