Key Points
- Íria Medina targets giant slalom primarily, introduces super-G for first time.
- Trained under Xavier Bellsolà and Ibon Mintegui after summer break.
- Super-G speed work expected to boost giant slalom by two steps per one gained.
- Positive sensations from early training camp fuel optimism.
Íria Medina, an Andorran alpine skier with the Federació Andorrana d'Esquí (FAE), plans to focus primarily on giant slalom next season while incorporating super-G into her national team programme for the first time.
Under team leader Xavier "Xoque" Bellsolà and coach Ibon Mintegui, Medina expects a period of adjustment after competing in other disciplines. She described the upcoming campaign as one of changes, but expressed optimism following positive feedback from an early training camp.
The preseason has progressed beyond initial lighter adjustment weeks after the summer break—described by Medina as demanding—into more intensive blocks to increase strength and volume.
Medina emphasised the potential benefits of super-G work on her core event. "If we make one step forward in super-G, we'll take two in giant slalom," she said, underscoring how speed training could enhance her giant slalom results.
"I'm mainly focusing on giant slalom and adding super-G as something new," Medina noted. "There'll be an adaptation phase at the start, but the first camp brought very good sensations. I'm keen to make the most of this and train hard."
