Andorran Canoeist Mònica Dòria Calls Season Best Yet Ahead of European Title Defense

Andorran canoeist Mònica Dòria has hailed her ongoing season as the best of her career, citing three medals and improved mental solidity as she prepares to defend her European canoe title in Ivrea, Italy.

Speaking at Creand headquarters alongside coach Cristian Tobio, Dòria reviewed a campaign that included a canoe silver at the World Championships in Oklahoma City—a personal challenge she takes great pride in—and two bronzes at last weekend's World Cup in La Seu d'Urgell, one in kayak and one in kayak cross. She also placed fourth in canoe there, calling the overall weekend "one of the best results of my career."

"Has it been the best season I've ever had," Dòria said. "It was long, but we're all very satisfied." She highlighted technical and mental progress over last year, adding, "I feel like a much more solid athlete than before. I've shown myself I can be more consistent over a full season."

Dòria acknowledged room for improvement, referencing a tougher World Cup in Paris where results fell short. She aims to advance particularly in kayak and kayak cross.

The season finale comes next week at the European Championships in Ivrea from September 24 to 26, where she holds the reigning canoe title. "I'm going for everything, especially with more tranquility now," she said, buoyed by recent performances.

Looking toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the new qualification format, Tobio noted Dòria's current points from Oklahoma, Paris, and La Seu d'Urgell would place her among direct qualifiers. He cautioned, however, that six more events next year will count, making the road ahead a long one.
