€1.15M to struggling MoraBanc Andorra in Liga ACB and €550K to Gerard Piqué-managed FC Andorra in Segunda División to boost Andorra's brand in Spain.
Key Points
- €1.15M to MoraBanc Andorra (Liga ACB, 2nd-to-last after 6 losses)
- €550K to FC Andorra (Segunda División, out of relegation zone)
- Funding via direct procurement for Andorra brand exposure in Spain
- Contracts agreed pre-Christmas, published in BOPA Wednesday
Andorra Turisme has allocated €1.7 million in sponsorship funding to the Principality's leading professional sports clubs for the 2025-2026 season, which is currently underway: €1.15 million to Bàsquet Club MoraBanc Andorra and €550,000 to FC Andorra.
The contracts, processed through direct procurement, were agreed shortly before Christmas and published in the Butlletí Oficial del Principat d'Andorra (BOPA) on Wednesday. The funding targets promotion of the Andorra brand, particularly in Spain, via the clubs' participation in top Spanish leagues.
MoraBanc Andorra, coached by Joan Plaza and captained under president Gorka Aixàs, competes in the elite Liga ACB. The team sits second-to-last after six straight losses and faces BAXI Manresa on Sunday at noon, desperate to secure survival in the top flight.
FC Andorra, now managed on the sidelines and in the boardroom by Gerard Piqué alongside president Ferran Vilaseca, plays in Spain's Segunda División (Liga Hypermotion). It has climbed out of the relegation zone and hosts Osca on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Andorra Turisme cited the teams' broad exposure in Spain as the key rationale, assigning nearly twice as much to basketball as to football.
