Andorran paddler Mònica Dòria secured third place in the women's C1 event at the first round of the International Pyrenees Cup in slalom canoeing, held this weekend at the Parc Olímpic del Segre in La Seu d'Urgell.
The competition, which counts toward the International Canoe Federation (ICF) world rankings, drew more than 200 athletes from around 20 countries. Dòria completed the podium behind local favourite Núria Vilarrubla, who took gold, and Ainhoa Lameiro in second.
In other women's categories, Maialen Chourraut won the K1 event, with France's Coline Charel and Britain's Lois Leaver taking silver and bronze. Charel also claimed victory in Kayak Cross, ahead of Leaver and Romane Prigent.
The men's events saw Oier Diaz top the C1 category, followed by Adam Burgess and Jus Javornik. David Llorente won K1, with Gino Benini of France in second and Faust Clotet Juanmartí from Pallars in third. Manuel Ochoa took the Kayak Cross title, ahead of Sam Leaver and local athlete Miquel Travé.
This opening round marks the first international event of the year at the Parc Olímpic del Segre, which will host the 2026 World Cup final in September—offering Olympic qualifying points for the 2028 Los Angeles Games—and the 2027 World Championships.
The series continues next weekend on 14-15 March in Pau, where overall winners in each discipline will be decided.
