Andorran para-alpine skier Roger Puig finished fifth in the second downhill training session at the Winter Paralympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
The session took place yesterday amid sunny conditions and increasingly transformed snow. Puig dropped from third place after the first two partials to fifth overall, just 0.21 seconds behind the third position. Swiss skier Robin Cuche posted the fastest time, followed by France's Arthur Bauchet and Sweden's Aaron Lindström.
Puig used the run to test new lines on key sections of the course. He reported positive sensations for most of the descent, maintaining a competitive pace early on, but small errors in the final stretch cost him time.
The third and final training session scheduled for yesterday was cancelled. Puig, who arrived in Cortina without setting specific targets, will make his debut in his third Paralympics today with the downhill race starting at 11:15. The event follows the opening ceremony the previous evening.
In prior Games, his best results were 17th in the giant slalom at Beijing 2022 and 20th in the slalom at Pyeongchang 2018.
