Cande Moreno Finishes 16th in Europa Cup Super-G, Rises to 8th Overall

Andorran skier Cande Moreno finished 16th in the Europa Cup super-G event held on Monday in Orcières Merlette, France, earning 15 points that lifted her to eighth in the discipline's overall standings.

Moreno clocked a time of 1:07.53, finishing 1.19 seconds behind winner Fabiana Dorigo of Germany, who posted 1:06.34. Austria's Lisa Grill took second place at +0.47, with Italy's Sara Allemand third at +0.61.

The race saw changes to the course, including a lower start position that altered the upper section. Moreno encountered an inside gate that briefly stopped her, costing time early on. She recorded the 28th split at the first intermediate, then improved to eighth at the second and 12th at the third. Despite a strong lower section, she ended just half a second outside the podium.

The performance boosted Moreno to 96 points in the super-G standings, behind leader Allemand (260), Norway's Marte Monsen (160), Grill (121), Austria's Vanessa Nussbaumer (116) and Lena Wechner (113), Switzerland's Jasmin Mathis (101), and Dorigo (100).

Her coach, Xoque Bellsolà, noted the challenging conditions: "Today was not ideal; they had to lower the start, but the race went ahead. For us, this was a bonus to get going, though we hoped for more. We picked up solid Europa Cup points, and now we're focusing on Crans Montana for the World Cup."

Moreno now heads to Crans Montana, Switzerland, for World Cup events. Training is scheduled for Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th, ahead of the downhill on Friday 30th and super-G on Saturday 31st.
