Encamp parish council held an information session with Pas de la Casa residents on Thursday to outline major renovations at the local sports centre, with work scheduled to start on Sunday, 1 June.
The project aims to modernise a facility over 40 years old, previously expanded about two decades ago, which now faces functional shortcomings and requires structural updates to meet growing demand and modern sports needs. Officials presented the upgrades as key to strengthening Pas de la Casa's role as Andorra's premier sports tourism destination. The phased approach will refresh sports facilities, raise service quality, expand capacity and options, and limit disruptions to users.
The first phase converts the current dining area into a gym nearly tripling in size from 185 square metres to over 580 square metres. It will feature dedicated zones for activation, functional training, guided strength, free weights, and cardio, plus a new 185-square-metre room for instructor-led activities. Access points will be redesigned with a refreshed reception, direct entry from outside to the multi-purpose court bleachers, and additional public toilets. These changes will add roughly 768 square metres of new sports space.
Later phases target the aquatic area, segmenting it by user type—school groups, sports camps, and general visitors. Locker rooms will gain inclusive designs with unisex cabins and separate sections, alongside full waterproofing to fix existing pool leaks. The small pool becomes a hydromassage relaxation zone, the spa expands with added loungers, and the Turkish bath receives upgrades. A dedicated gym for sports camps will link directly to the water zone. Additional elements include a larger outdoor jacuzzi, a fully resurfaced padel court with official certification, and new flooring for the multi-purpose hall.
The council emphasised minimal impacts over the next two years, reassuring residents and passholders. No major closures are expected until mid-2027, when the aquatic zone and changing rooms close temporarily, with contingency options already under review to sustain services. The session addressed user questions and highlighted the centre's transformation into a flagship sports venue.
