The Andorran women's 15s rugby team has begun a new phase with the appointment of a coaching tandem made up of Gerard Giménez and Jordi Fidalgo. Giménez, former president of VPC and a current federation director, joins Fidalgo, the VPC women's team coach, to lead the national side.
The Rugby Federation (FAR) says the pair bring a mix of experience, ambition and commitment needed to continue consolidating the Grandalles project. The federation’s goals include maintaining a solid, competitive model that promotes local talent and grows the women's 15s game.
Giménez said the objective is “to consolidate a solid and motivated group, and to strengthen the 15s format.” He described taking the role with enthusiasm and responsibility and stressed the importance of building a project with continuity. Giménez also highlighted the emotional side of the post: “Representing the country is a pride and I want every player to feel the same when they wear the Andorra shirt.”
Fidalgo echoed that vision, calling the appointment “a true honour” and emphasising an ambitious, educational approach. “I face this stage with enthusiasm and commitment, with the aim of building a united and motivated group that shows on the field the values of effort, respect and passion,” he said.
Both selectors emphasise strengthening ties between the national team and local clubs as a key element for the development of women's rugby in Andorra. Their working model will focus on daily training to enhance players’ strengths and reinforce the identity of the whole squad.
