Joan Laporta, FC Barcelona president and re-election candidate, visited Andorra on Tuesday, February 24, to rally support for his "Defensem el Barça" platform at a gathering with local club members and fans from across the Pyrenees.
The open event took place at 6pm in the Green Box room at Unnic on Prat de la Creu in Andorra la Vella, with members of Laporta's candidacy team in attendance. Earlier that day, he inaugurated a pre-election office at Prat de la Creu 24 for collecting signatures. The office operated from Monday, February 23, to Friday, February 27, between noon and 8pm, allowing any FC Barcelona member—regardless of residence—to endorse his bid.
This trip marked Laporta's return to Andorra during his re-election drive, following a visit months earlier as club president and another in 2021 for his winning campaign, which also featured a signature office on Prat de la Creu. Among his rivals—Xavier Vilajoana, Marc Ciria, and Víctor Font—only Font operated a similar point, in a shop on Isabelle Sandy street in Escaldes-Engordany. The Centre de Congressos in Andorra la Vella will host voting for the presidential elections on Sunday, May 15.
Laporta aims to build on his 2021 project, completing the club's economic, institutional, and sporting recovery. His platform emphasises affection for Barcelona, collective pride, and commitment to the club's identity, under the motto "Estimar el Barça és defensar el Barça". It outlines five key goals: strengthening institutional and financial stability; completing Espai Barça with the remodelled Spotify Camp Nou at its core; modernising governance; pursuing success across all sections; and ensuring member ownership.
He points to achievements like reduced debt, higher recurring revenues, and record sponsorship and merchandising figures. Laporta argues that returning to the upgraded Camp Nou will boost structural income and further cut debt, crediting deliberate decisions—not chance—for regained institutional credibility. Sportingly, he promotes blending La Masia talents with top signings, global leadership in women's football, and a robust multi-sport approach. He also stresses protecting the club's independence, democratic nature, and member ownership, with recovery measures avoiding direct costs to socios.
